For the last ten years, I’ve written and managed This Ugly Beauty Business, a blog, podcast, and management consulting firm specializing in the unique challenges professional beauty workers face. As a popular subject matter expert, I spoke at national trade shows and hosted my own conferences. My written work appeared routinely in major industry trade magazines, like The Stylist, Nailpro, Nails Magazine, and others. As a consultant, I helped shape some of the most trendy salon and spa brands in the country, creating a generation of competitive, ethical employers who are dedicated to improving the wages and working conditions of beauty industry workers.
In addition to creating a variety of courses and downloadable business tools designed to help salon owners and professionals automate complex pricing and compensation calculations, I published two books: The Beauty Industry Survival Guide and Salon Ownership and Management: The Definitive Guide to the Professional Beauty Business. Both titles are highly regarded and often used in trade schools as part of their curriculum.
In 2020, I reached a point where I felt that I had said all I could about the subjects covered on the blog and decided to pursue my passion for fiction. In October, I launched The Dread Machine. You can learn more about this project here.
